Do you have something to say about your business or products? Do you have regular news or information updates you can write about? If you do, a blog is a great way to keep your website fresh and up to date. It doesn’t even have to be called a blog. It could be a news page, an events page or a page about new products and special offers. Adding new content to your website will rank you higher in the search engines and bring new and interested visitors to your website.
Business blogs are quite common now, and you will see that a lot of major companies will have a blog of some sort attached to their website. For example, our ‘enlightenment‘ blog as part of the cannedSunlight website is a learning and advice area intended to help our current customers and inform our future potential customers.
You can use a blog as a marketing tool to drive more people to your website and advertise your products. You will need to set up a blog as part of your own website, as most blogging platforms such as blogger, or wordpress.com will not allow you to advertise your own website, business or product. If these blog hosts think you are breaking their strict terms and conditions on promotion they will suspend your account. Which is not good for your business image. There are some blogging platforms made for businesses but they are not free. Some hosting packages will come with the option of a blog, and some site-builder software will enable you to create a blog, so it is worth contacting your hosting company to see what they have to offer. Or take it into account when you are comparing hosting services.
If you are using your own installation of wordpress you already have a fantastic blogging platform at your fingertips. As well as a content management system, you can use wordpress for what it was originally designed for, blogging. You can set up a page for your blog and call it news, then write posts to update the page. Every time there is a new post wordpress will ping all the search engines to tell them there is new content, and they can index it. This increases your ranking in the search engines, especially if you write using the keywords you want to be found for. Once at your website, your visitor can be enticed to look further at your products and could become a potential customer.
Tell your customers about your business and products with a blog. Do it regularly and you’ll find it will increase the visitors to your website.
